^^ They are, but rickets causes bone softening and also muscle problems. I know some children with rickets do get braces or even surgery, but I don't know the specifics of Zahara's case so i can't hazard a guess at her diagnosis and treatment other than i previously gave.
Edited to add: Click on the link and go down to the middle of the page. There are some pics of a child before and after 2 years of treatment with Vitamin D. So you can see why most docs would take a wait and see approach with a child that young.
