Esp those regarding the "male gaze" (I learned about that in college, I was a womens studies minor) and the "pornification of the mainstream" which is a relatively new phenomenon.
So much of it is women thinking "our worth is equivalent to our hotness" and other women are something to compete with.
I think it goes along with the cult of celebrity in this era. Part of having all the cool brands (LV, dior, whatever) and the other things most women can't afford. which plays into the crazy debt young ppl get into. Mtv really perpetuates this. the whole lohan, paris, britney thing.
Its like a "stripper" culture, where strip clubs aren't really scandelous, they're just another stop on the pub crawl.
