Well, they don't want her to change, either. They want her to stay
pretty much the same. She becomes a symbol of their youth,
something permanent in their lives, and if she suddenly goes on
stage looking 55, fat and wrinkled, they think it's a reflection on them.
They'll say, "my god, she looks terrible!" but they really mean,
"my god,
I don't look that bad, do I?"

People are more accepting of each other than given credit for. It doesnt really matter. Thats who they are. And what they are. Surgery is too drastic to keep doing it over and over. And you dont end up looking too flash either, so it cant be worth it.

I don't think that's true of celebs and their audience. They forgive
their friends, because they are on the same social level as their
friends and see their friends every day. But the relationship they
have with celebs is one rooted in expectations and disappointment.
