I think you should get a second opinion. It doesn't sound too good that your vet scared you like this into considering putting your cat to sleep (although it's all up to you to decide).

I'm sure there are other alternatives and holistic/homeopathy approches to treating your cat's diabetes.

Do more research and perhaps call around for other vets who might be more knowledgeable.
