"A"-list stars who are smart know better than to rely solely on Hollywood bockbusters for their careers. Playing smaller roles in indie films is a great way to broaden your audience and keep your chops up for a time when NO roles will be offered to you, especially if you're a woman over 30.
As for following up in Hideous Kinky, if I'm not mistaken, that film was made before Titanic, not that it matters. If she's not a top-tier star, she is damn close. Kate is NOT responsible for what the studios do after she's finished shooting unless she has some producer control over the film. I think it is a bit disingenuous to blame her for what they do to her stretch marks.

She has no choice in the matter. Just because she was in Titanic
doesn't mean she's an A-list star; her follow-up was Hideous Kinky
for chrissake....
