When I was visiting Europe somewhere in the eighties, I was at the hotel, going up and down the dial and caught an interview with him. He's like a car accident you know? You should know better than to watch, but somehow you can't look away? Well, he was giving a tour of his house and he had a sound studio in one room and, I swear, a whole wall of gold and platinum discs (no doubt, all sold in Germany). Anyway, he stood there, hands on hips, claiming he was - I kid you not - in the same league as The Beatles, Sinatra, Presley because, get this, his music made people happy and changed many people's lives for the better...... Can you imagine me sitting there on the hotel bed, remote in hand, mouth agape in absolute disbelief?
