I can see PETA's point, but as usual , they go to extremes. I would say that Steve Irwin was a little rough with animals, but I think that is because he was overconfident and was overly comfortable with them. I don't think he was maliciously antagonizing and persecuting the animals on his program, the way PETA and other hysterics claim. I think he thought of the animals as his friends and I think he loved them. But the critters he chased may not have exactly returned his feelings in kind; perhaps they perceived him as a pesky little brother. As far as the stingray goes, I think he may have been frightened by an enthusiastic guy paddling around his territory with a camera crew. He reacted to defend his territory. Steve Irwin may have gotten a little carried away at times, but he was very sincere and his intentions were good. I wish folks like PETA and Germaine Greer would try to at least keep their mouths shut for awhile and let the family grieve in peace.
