Re: Prince Charles and Camilla not legally married?
The UK monarchy has been around for almost a thousand years. During that time there have been kings and queens who have been mad, bad, mad AND bad. There's been a few good ones too, including the current queen. If you are the heir to the throne because you happen to be the firstborn son or if there are no sons, the eldest daughter of the monarch, or because you are shunted sideways into the position of heir because the monarch dies childless, then your personality and how you conduct your private life is completely irrelevant. When Queen Elizabeth dies her eldest son will become King Charles III, and when HE dies his son will become King William V. That's how it works. If you disapprove of the monarch's lifestyle or behaviour that's too bad - you get what you're given and that's that. Unless you do what the French did and organise a national revolution and send the royals and all the aristos to the guillotine.
King Edward VIII abdicated because he was weak and stupid and completely pussywhipped. It was the fact that he put his personal life before his 'duty' that made the whole Abdication Crisis so traumatic for the great British public. I know it's hard for non-Brits to understand, but it's something deep in the British psyche I think. In fact, he did everyone a favour because by abdicating his brother then became King George VI whose daughter is our current queen.
