It could be that Hollywood had the wind knocked out of it
by the success of The Passion of the Christ, and now they're
struggling to appeal to a devoutly religious audience that they'd
only mocked prior to that.
Seriously. When Gibson announced he was going to make that
film I thought he was kidding. Then he makes it and it isn't
even in English, and I thought he was just preparing for a
write-off. Then it made $350 million...a huge audience came
out to see it because it was a reverential portrayal.
Hollywood liberals basically sat up and said, "WTF?" because
they realized that was a huge market of people that they'd
been snubbing.
So now they're either becoming more conscientious about morality
or pretending to. Either way, he won't be the last.
