Actor ANTONIO BANDERAS has dismissed ongoing speculation his wife MELANIE GRIFFITH is dependent on alcohol.

The WORKING GIRL actress prompted furious debate after a photo of her attending an Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meeting appeared on the front cover of the National Enquirer recently. She was reported to have confessed to a drug relapse.

However, her actor husband insists the rumours are tired and unfounded, insisting there was a perfectly innocent explanation for her appearance.

He says, "My wife has been an alcoholic her whole life, or so AA says, and she's been going to meeting for years. They're just trying to make a story. Whatever. She's sponsoring people now. It's just a normal thing."
