Paris Hilton has hit back at Mischa Barton, after the actress blasted the hotel heiress for "hating everyone around her age who is more successful".

THE OC star, 20, reportedly fell out with the socialite, 25, when she began dating Hilton's best pal Kimberly Stewart's ex-fiance Cisco Adler and formed a close friendship with Hilton's former friend Nicole Richie.

At a BAFTA after-party on Sunday (19FEB06), Barton denied there was a rivalry with Hilton, but admitted she wasn't impressed with the reality TV star's attitude, saying, "She seems to hate everyone around her age who is more successful."

In response, Hilton tells the New York Daily News, "I don't even know the girl. I could care less. It seems like she's the one trying to stir up a rivalry. I've never said a word about her in my life. But she seems to be spending a lot of time thinking about me."

Barton's publicist insists the actress was "joking" when discussing Hilton.
