We really need to get past this whole 'average American woman' and 'Marylin was a size 12' nonsense. First of all, the Average American Woman is overweight and actually needs to lose for their health if not for their looks alone. So, being an 'average' woman isn't really something to strive for unless you are already as big as the side of a barn. Marylin was NEVER what a size 12 today is. Most of our slimmer women who wear 2s and 4s would have easily been an 8 or 10 in the 1950's before vanity sizing took hold. Overweight average women just want to think they are the same size as Marylin.

Sasha; it is interesting that you put that pic of Marylin up in response to Sweetie's comments. Some women loooove to think they have more in common with Marylin than they do with 'size 0' supermodels I suppose, but Marylin was hardly fat, even though she did get a big zaftig at one point in her career....weight that she had lost before she died, by the way. She did not stay that size but for a brief period.

And AABBCC: why is it that whenever we start talking about obese women, someone always has to say, 'well it's better than being a stick thin size 0' as though those are the only two alternatives available: Either be a fat pigg with more rolls than a bakery or be a praying mantis with a uterus and a cocaine habit. Jeez, there are a lot of sizes in between.
