Current work situation--35 hour work week, all stat holidays paid. We work half an hour extra per day (7.52 hours) and then have 18 'earned days off' (with pay)to take whenver we want--sort of. Generally one each month and 3 you have to take between Christmas and New Year's (we're closed).

Former work situation--35 hour work week, all stats paid. We worked 3/4 of an hour extra per day and had one day off per 2 week pay period. So i would have every 2nd Monday off (with no loss of pay).
Both scenarios above = 70 hour 2 week pay period.

Former situation at my current job--4 day work week. Originally brought in to reduce traffic congestion, greenhouse gases, emissions etc. Taken away 2 contracts ago and the employer refuses to consider implementing it again. Instead they are promoting the "innovative way" that they are cutting down on emissions and being 'green' by awarding a contract to a car-sharing company. The idea is that instead of 30 or so fleet vehicles on the road, we would eliminate some of them and instead have employees use these communal cars (which would be reserved centrally). Cost of that contract ? Who knows. Cost of implementing 4 day work week? Nil. That's government for you.
