Well I would guess since the tv was only 8 months old that the extended warranty had not kicked in yet because the original warranty, which comes for the manufac., was still in place.

(The husband got the extended service plan on his tv that he got at Sears, about 3 years later the tv started having lines on the screen and they replaced it; he actually got a bigger tv for free.)
