Bella, because all those things are bad, yes, but still can be chalked up to bad judgment, bad influences, youthful mistakes. Things like that can be transient, you can get over. And really all those things only affected her.

But the mistreatment of animals so much more often indicates a profound lack of empathy. Experts have pointed out time and time again that animal abuse and torture is a common trait in sociopaths and murderers. They're so self-absorbed they don't care that they are causing pain to a helpless animal. The worst of them even enjoy it because it makes them feel powerful.

Many of those examples sounded like accidents or irresponsible behavior. But she beat her dog. If she was over the age of 6, that is a big red flag to me.

*I just saw that it said she was 6. But still unacceptable. And she still tried to kill her snake?? So the previous behavior was not exactly irrelevant, it just got worse.
