If I could afford it, I'd have "unnecessary" procedures to fix the gap in my front teeth, too. Sod all that about resisting the generic beauty ideal - the people who moralise about cosmetic dentistry and plastic surgery usually don't have an issue with using makeup to cover damaged or blemished skin, or dyeing their hair to disguise the grey, etc.
