Not saying 'horsey' people have hearts of stone at all BUT horseracing is a huge multi-billion dollar industry and the money is generated by those fragile creatures on 4 horribly fragile legs. Of course they are pampered and cared for like VIPs because that's what they are. No horse, no money, no industry.
