I have to wonder what's with all this waiting for referrals and for Social Services to provide counseling. Could the parents not just take her to a psychiatrist on their own dollar? I'm not necessarily blaming them, maybe there is something governing that in the UK, but if so, that's pretty unfortunate. If publicly-funded mental health care exists, that's great, but I think you should always be able to find your own and see them on your own dime or under private insurance as well, like here.
