The world is a very small place these days. You may look at the map and think "oh my God, it's 20,000 miles away" but in fact it's a day on a plane. Think of time, not distance. And the internet, email, etc has made the transition even smaller. And the thing is, if you emigrate and hate it, you can always go back 'home' again! There's no shame in admitting you tried it and hated it. Better that than say "Oh I'd never dare do something like that" and then 20yrs down the track bitterly regret you didn't take the opportunity when it was offered.
