Default Letterman vs. O'Reilly

Quote:
Bill O'Reilly vs. David Letterman?

Not since Godzilla took on King Kong has there been such a battle. Okay, maybe not.

But it was still - as Letterman band leader Paul Shaffer opined after O'Reilly left the CBS "Late Show" stage Tuesday night - "Good TV, wouldn't you say?"

The fireworks began when the normally apolitical Letterman mocked the very political Fox News Channel star for his recent warnings against "secular" bureaucrats who allegedly are removing the word "Christmas" from American culture.

"Isn't this the kind of thing," Letterman smirked, "that once or twice every 20 years, somebody gets outraged and says, 'Oh my God, we gotta put diapers on horses'?"

O'Reilly countered: "You think I'm making this up?"

Letterman: "Yes, I think you're making it up."

Then the two hugely rich television personalities argued about President Bush, the U.S. military operation in Iraq and especially peace protester Cindy Sheehan, whose soldier-son was killed in the war.

Letterman: "How can you possibly take exception with the motivation and the position of someone like Cindy Sheehan?" O'Reilly: "Because I think she's run by far-left elements in this country. I feel bad for the woman."

Finally Letterman declared: "I'm not smart enough to debate you point to point on this, but I have the feeling about 60% of what you say is crap."

O'Reilly: "You're going to have to give me an example if you're going to make those claims."

Letterman: "Well I don't watch your show, so that would be impossible."

Yesterday, Letterman was mum on the subject, but O'Reilly said on his radio show: "I have to give Letterman credit for at least acknowledging that he didn't have the facts and, you know, saying that he was going from his emotion."
