She is a classically trained singer, but was advised to abandon her craft at the age of 17 due to her chronic asthma and the physical limitations of her tiny stature.

She attended Brown University, and formed a jazz quartet with three of her friends. Later she formed the Lavender Diamond and relocated to Los Angeles, California.
